Born between wars and borders, Ibrahim has never truly belonged anywhere. The son of a Sri Lankan mother and a Sudanese father who met while fleeing civil wars, his life has been shaped by constant displacement. Raised in Lebanon without citizenship and later forced to move to Sudan after his father’s deportation, his sense of home has always been fragile.
When war erupts in Sudan in 2023, Ibrahim flees to East Africa, is search for safety, while sporadically reaching out to his parents, who remain trapped amid bombings, blackouts, and failing networks. Ibrahim decides to risk returning to Sudan, after being away for years. He embarks on a journey that becomes a visit to his past and discovers why his life had never truly found stability and peace.
Through a hybrid visual language combining archival footage, animation, home videos, and vérité moments, Where Do I Belong unfolds as an intimate road movie about memory, family and the instability that keeps shaping his life.
