Synopsis:

FRACTURED: Medical Aid Under Fire is a feature documentary examining the collapse of medical neutrality in Gaza and other conflict zones. At the center is Dr. Tammy Abughnaim, an American physician whose first humanitarian mission to Gaza is captured through intimate video diaries that reveal overwhelmed hospitals, wounded civilians, exhausted doctors, and the emotional cost of treating patients under fire.

Her journey expands into a global investigation through testimony from humanitarian physicians, human rights lawyers, medical neutrality experts, and access to United Nations discussions on the protection of healthcare workers. Raw, urgent, and deeply human, FRACTURED asks what happens when hospitals become battlegrounds, ambulances become targets, and doctors are punished for saving lives.

Dean Bushala is an Emmy-winning producer, director, and cinematographer with more than three decades of documentary experience. His work has appeared on Disney+, National Geographic, PBS, Discovery, MTV, and History Channel. Known for visually compelling, human-centered storytelling, Dean directed and produced KHSARA, the Emmy-nominated short documentary that serves as the foundation for FRACTURED: Medical Aid Under Fire.

Jameeleh Shelo is a Palestinian American Muslim writer, producer, performer, filmmaker, and community organizer from Chicago’s South Side. An Emmy Award-winning writer and Telly Award-winning producer, she has produced for major networks and platforms including TBS, Comedy Central, HGTV, DIY Network, Harpo, and TLC. She is the former Executive Director of the Chicago Palestine Film Festival and the author of the children’s books Laith the Lion Goes to Palestine and Sayf’s Eid Adventure. Jameeleh served as Executive Producer of the Emmy-nominated short documentary KHSARA and is a 2025 Safina Filmmaker Fellow. Her work spans documentary, comedy, children’s media, and narrative film, with a focus on Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and underrepresented stories.
