Filmlab Palestine

Filmlab Palestine

Guided by the slogan “Emancipatory Film Culture in, from, and for Palestine,” Filmlab Palestine is a non-profit organization founded in 2014 with the mission of promoting, reviving, and expanding cinema as a powerful tool for self-expression, storytelling, and the preservation of collective memory. We are dedicated to strengthening film production and viewership in Palestine, cultivating a broader cinema-going audience, and empowering a new generation of Palestinian filmmakers.

We specialize in the Arab world as a geographical focus, and in documentary both as a cinematic genre and a cultural practice. Our programs are designed for film professionals from across the documentary field. We prioritize bold, daring approaches that challenge conventions—without compromising on quality or aesthetic integrity.

Dar Jacir for Art and Research

Dar Jacir for Art and Research

We produce experimental films and host residencies for local filmmakers in  Palestine. Our "Bad Residency Program” is specifically for Palestinian filmmakers living in the diaspora. We also host emerging young film curators and mentor them in hosting public film series and cinema clubs. We work with local and international film festivals to host their events in our space for the Bethlehem community. Artist-led, our pedagogical practices and alternative models of education facilitate and give agency to artists and participants to lead, ask questions and encounter Palestinian and international artists, thinkers, and cultural leaders. Through alternative arts education, we also respond to the needs of our community, and strive to engage individuals that might not otherwise have access to creative and artistic opportunities.
